Minicar Oka remains the cheapest domestic passenger car. At one time, it was even predicted for the role of the people's car and the giant industrial complex in Yelabuga was designated as the place of its production, intending to end the multi-year car shortage. But dreams and projects remained unfulfilled, and in the mid-1990s, the Oka assembly, which was so annoying AvtoBA3y, was finally transferred to the SeAZ plants (which became part of AvtoVAZ) and KamAZ.

From the very beginning, the idea to make an Oka a people's car was utopia, because the main purpose of a private car in our country is to transport the family on weekends to the cottage and to export agricultural products from there, which the citizens couldn’t provide with the same power as cars.

But everything changes, and not always for the worse. Yes, the folk car from Oka did not work, but it took its place in the sun. After all, more convenient for the city, and even more so a cheap domestic car you will not find. The carburetor 649-cc 30-hp engine is half of the "VAZ" eight, as can be seen from the unification of the most important piston assembly with a 1.3-liter VAZ-2108 engine. Many other components are taken from the 2105 model, for example, a radiator, a tap and heating fittings, which eliminates many problems with spare parts, but does not solve them at all, since some parts (such as a crankshaft, etc.). original, and the scale of production is small and prices, respectively, may be greater than that of the "Zhiguli" or "Samara". In general, this rule, unfortunately, applies to a significant proportion of spare parts in general, cheap "Oka". Therefore, carefully weigh the balance of the price and the subsequent cost of repairing a minicar (perhaps capital) when purchasing.

The cabin easily accommodates four people of average build with luggage, which is quite surprising with such small overall dimensions (3200x1430x1400 mm). The capacity of the trunk with the rear seats folded (and not very much moved forward) allows you to load not only small belongings, but also fairly large items such as a 100-liter refrigerator or a 25-inch TV. But nature walks, and even with a full load, should not be abused, since the patency is quite limited (you can tear off the muffler) and passive safety is far from perfect, but the road handling is pretty decent and there is no comparison with imported classmates on the energy intensity "all the more used.

In the city, the "Oka" is really very nimble (using any gap between standing cars) and an economical little car, and if it is not overloaded and called "to the holes", then it is still worthy. However, age takes its toll: noise and vibration in the cabin - things seem inevitable. And although the landing in the front seats is quite free even for tall people (why obese "new Russians" sometimes buy it for trips to the garage for a Mercedes), three pedals are somewhere on the side (the grip is right under your right leg!), Sticking out like a stick, gearshift lever and lack of heat for the rear passengers from the stove, they do not add comfort to it in everyday use.

That, however, for the role of the second car in the family or the first in life (for poor students) is not a big obstacle. Moreover, in the course of production, part of the flaws (poor configuration) was eliminated in the early 1990s: the rear window heater appeared, there were fabric inserts in the seats, and the trunk was closed with a shelf.

In 1996, the production launched the model 11113 with a 750-cc engine producing 36 hp, which, in comparison with its predecessor, is more dynamic and economical (6 liters of AI-93 gasoline per 100 km in the urban cycle) due to a lower operating frequency of rotation.

In 1999, the enterprise managed to manufacture 28 thousand minicars, and in 2000 they expect to increase the output to 32 thousand units. Nevertheless, quantitative growth is constrained by limited deliveries from AvtoVAZ of power units, drives and other components. The situation should change after the production of engines in Togliatti will reach 60 thousand units (2000). ZMA also began operating a new welding complex with an annual output of 44 thousand bodies.

Currently, the vast majority of minicars assembled on the conveyor belt account for the three-door hatchback VAZ-11113 "Oka". Located in its engine compartment, a two-cylinder engine with a working volume of 0.75 liters and 33 hp. provides a maximum speed of 130 km / h. The dynamic qualities of the model will improve, since in 2001 Avto-VAZ will master the production of 40-horsepower engines equipped with a fuel injection system. Gearbox - 4-speed, drive is carried out on the front wheels. On request, a modified front panel, a right outside rear-view mirror, light alloy wheels, more comfortable front seats with headrests, and improved interior trim are installed. The body can be painted with enamels of metallic type.

Attempts to radically modernize the overgrown minicar “Oka” have been postponed. Further building prototypes things do not go. Nevertheless, the car is delivered for export, questions about the organization of assembly plants abroad are being resolved. And in Russia, some firms are actively engaged in tuning "Oka".

For several years, Oka-Tuning from Naberezhnye Chelny has been a business partner of the small car factory (ZMA) and the Serpukhov Automobile Plant (SeAZ), supplying both companies with front panels for custom modifications of the Oka car. At the same time, the company itself produces and sells minicars upgraded by it. They are distinguished by patch thresholds that make the sidewalls more dynamic, a graceful spoiler above the rear door, decorative overlays for blocks of external light devices, an original shape of air intake openings, and additional reflectors. Fully updated car interior. The front panel is harmonious and rational. Instrumentation borrowed from the VAZ-2106, successfully grouped in a single package. Other arrangement of air vents promotes the best distribution of air streams. A roomy glove box with a lid and a lock appeared. Differently decided to design the interior door panels. Now they have comfortable handrails. Front and rear seats with a better two-color upholstery better meet the requirements of ergonomics.

Specialists of the design studio "Cardi" created a tuning version of the popular minicar "Oka", called "Dinara". The refined aesthetics of the body is achieved thanks to the front bumper of the original form, which is made at the same time with the grille. Holes for air intake are well combined with standard direction indicators and additional headlights suspended from below. Hood got vyshtampovka, vividly allocating the middle part. The rear bumper smoothly mates with the surface of the third door. Below mounted tubular steps, and the rear door topped with a spoiler. For coloring of a body "Dinara" the wide color gamut is used. The salon is completely updated, including new finishing materials. Front panel with control devices, buttons and switches from the VAZ-2106. Instead of the standard used alloy 13-inch wheels. The serial engine can be replaced by a 40 or 63 hp power unit.

VAZ-1111 Oka "ELEKTRO" - a four-seater electric car, created on the basis of mass-produced car Vaz 1111 "Oka". The use of an electric drive makes it a non-toxic and noiseless urban transport.

A separate brake system, the possibility of recuperative braking by an electric motor, safety steering - comply with modern safety requirements for the design of the car. High-speed effective protection in the event of a short circuit completely eliminates electric shock, making the electric vehicle completely safe to use.

Oka "Electro" - a three-door sedan. The front wings are removable. For landing in the rear seat backrest front seats lean forward. The back seat can be folded, freeing up extra space for luggage.

Now AvtoVAZ is actively working to create a fundamentally new “Oka” - the VAZ 1121 Oka-M, the production of which is planned to be launched in 2005-2006. This time it will not be a deep modernization of the model, but a completely new car, for which not only the new body, but also the chassis is being developed.

According to preliminary information, by 2005 the entire complex of tests will be completed, and according to plans the car should be put on the conveyor in the same year. VAZ 1121 Oka-M as the current model will be produced at two plants - SeAZ and ZMA. According to experts, the volume of sales of cars of this class can be in Russia 150-200 thousand units.

The new VAZ 1121 Oka-M will in all respects become larger today: 100 mm longer, 100 mm wider and 100 mm higher. Increase engine power. Now a motor with a volume of 0.749 cm / cube with a capacity of 33 hp is installed on the "Oka". Pre-VAZ 1121 Oka-M will be equipped with one of two engines: the 33-strong or more powerful Ukrainian MeMZ of 1.1 liters capacity of 49 hp.

According to preliminary information, the VAZ 1121 Oka-M will still have a 3-door body, although the layouts show that the 5-door version has also been worked out. At the moment, only a photo of the model of the future car is available, but you can see the concept of the novelty and very preliminary estimate the design according to the Karat concept presented a few years ago. By the way, the very first conceptual models of the Oka-2 (the initial conditional name) were made in the style of modern bio-design, and VAZ did not have money to master such a model, therefore the concept of the new model was completely revised.
