Model VAZ-2105 in its design is almost consistent with the European fashion of the early 1980s. This allowed selling the model in a number of European countries for many more years. Although in Europe such rear-wheel drive four-door five-seater sedans already in the 70s began to take the position of front-wheel drive models. Since its introduction (and now even more), this classic sedan has not become prestigious for many car owners and, accordingly, has not become AvtoVAZ’s mass production. This did not prevent him until the appearance of front-wheel-drive VAZ to be considered the most progressive design. Externally, the car received straightened lines of body design, large rectangular block headlights in front and behind, aluminum bumpers, fenders then fashionable wings, a camshaft drive belt, and not the usual chain. The ventilation system differs from the previous ones by the presence of rectangular deflectors. Electrically heated rear window - standard equipment! The VAZ-2105 model range still being produced reflects the very essence of the modern concept of a vehicle. Somewhat austere salon can only spoil the first impression by the build quality and the level of equipment, but not by the price (especially after devaluation)! From the beginning of production, the VAZ 2105 was equipped with 1.3-liter carburetor engines with a capacity of 64 hp. (with a camshaft belt drive), these cars were also completed with 69-strong (according to the old GOST) VAZ-21011 engines, which until 1986 were supplied with oil filters of the 2101 type. Subsequently, they were replaced with compact type 2105. The engines were constantly upgraded. Later, a modification of the VAZ-21053 with a VAZ-2103 engine of 72 hp was mastered. (according to the new GOST). For a long time, the VAZ-21051 was modified with a 1.2-liter VAZ-2101 engine with a capacity of 64 hp. (according to the old GOST).

From 1982 to 1984, together with the rocker arms of steel valves 40H, the camshafts were nitrated instead of quenching with high frequency resistance to increase wear resistance, which provided increased corrosion resistance, wear resistance and high resistance to alternating loads. With the curtailment at AvtoVAZ of the production of low-powered 1.2-and 1.3-liter engine models, only the most powerful 1.5-liter VAZ-21053 modification remained in production, the configuration of which can vary significantly between the interior trim (from leatherette to velor) and others.
