Peugeot 208 review | Is this aging Pug still worth your cash?

The Peugeot 208 is a front-wheel-drive compact car that replaced the Model 207 in the “B” segment. The serial version was first introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2012. The model is offered in two body versions: with three and five doors.

Peugeot 208

This hatchback has little to do with its predecessor, and, not only externally but also constructively. The car is built on the PSA PF1 platform. It is shorter than the Peugeot 207 by 60 mm in the front and 10 mm in the rear, the width has decreased by 10 mm, but inside the car is even more bulky than its predecessor. Due to the successful internal layout, the manufacturer increased the cabin area by 50 mm in the area of the rear seats, and also added about 15 liters to the trunk (285 l). The weight of the car also decreased compared to its predecessor by 110-173 kilograms, depending on the configuration. Peugeot 208 has high aerodynamic performance (Cx - from 0.29, SCx - from 0.61).

The appearance of the car, regardless of whether it is a three-or five-door version, fits perfectly into the capital's architecture. According to the idea of French designers, Peugeot 208 should emphasize youth and individuality. The most memorable design elements were headlights of a very original shape, a wide grille, an elegantly made hood and embossed stamping along the body. Look very harmonious and rear lights, "boomerangs".

Peugeot 208

The interior is more spacious than the Peugeot 207. The space for the legs of the rear passengers has increased by 5 cm at the level of the knees. The interior design echoes the fast-moving body design: ventilation grids in the shape of cat's eyes, graceful door handles, a stylish gear lever. Particular attention is paid to designers lighting. Soft white instrument lighting and bluish - for a panoramic roof, which is offered in rich trim levels. Driver's workplace provides absolute obviousness and intuitiveness of control. It is built around a small steering wheel, a wide touchscreen display and a dashboard at the driver’s eye level, which allows you to look at the indicators not over the steering wheel rim, but on top of it.

Peugeot 208 can be driven by one of eight engines. Three diesel with a capacity of 68 to 115 horsepower and five petrol with a capacity of 68 to 156 horsepower. Two three-cylinder gasoline engines with variable valve timing - 1.0 VTi and 1.2 VTi, 1.6-liter VTi, two turbocharged 1.6-liter THP, two diesel semi-hybrid 1.4 and 1.6-liter and conventional diesel 1, 4 liter engines. All engines comply with Euro-5 standard. Diesel engines have CO2 emissions of 99 g / km or less. Only gasoline engines equipped with 5-speed manual transmissions will be supplied to Russia, diesel engines and semi-hybrid with 5- and 6-speed manual transmissions and robotic manual transmissions are available in Europe.

Peugeot 208

Front suspension - independent, MacPherson type, with coil springs and hydraulic shock absorbers; back - dependent, with a deformable crossbeam and the same springs and shock absorbers.

The car is available in 6 trim levels: "Access", "Access +", "Active", "Allure", "Feline" and "Ice Velvet" (only for the 3-door version). In the basic configuration, the car has ABS, AFU (emergency braking assistance system), EPS, airbags (front, side and side curtains) and other standard options. In the list of additional options, a start-stop system, 17-inch wheels (15 or 16-inch standard), a center armrest, leather seats, etc.

In the design of Peugeot 208 used environmentally friendly materials (past recycled or having a natural origin), which for the most part are polymeric compositions. Model 208 was the first car in the world with a rear bumper and fan, which are made of "green" materials. The use of this technology only for the production of bumpers will save up to 1600 tons of oil per year.

Car security system is one of the best in the segment. Numerous devices significantly reduce the likelihood of an accident and the severity of possible injuries for both the driver and passengers.
