MINI Paceman SUV 2013 review - CarBuyer
For the first time about the Mini Paceman became known in early 2011. Then in Detroit showed the concept of the future crossover coupe. The official premiere took place in September 2012 at the Paris Auto Show. Coupe-crossover built on the platform Countryman. From its five-door relative, Paceman is distinguished by its greater compactness, a falling roof and the presence of only three doors. The Mini says that the Paceman opens up a completely new class of cars - the Sports Activity Coupe.
Ahead of the crossover is a multi-level air intake and a neat bumper with additional “points” of light. The MINI Paceman headlights are round. In the profile of the car - the usual mirrors with legs, high window-sill line and compact glass surfaces. The roof falls to the stern and it looks very stylish.
The bottom of the car covers unpainted black plastic - even the edges of the wheel arches are dressed in it, and the arches themselves are swollen. The tailgate is quite traditional and has a miniature glass. On the back of the horizontal drops of parking lights and a lean bumper, into which the outputs of the silencers are integrated. In various trim levels, the crossover is equipped with 195 / 60R16 or 205 / 55R17 tires. As an option, 225 / 45R18 or 225 / 40R19 tires are offered. Wheels, of course, light alloy.
The length of the crossover is 4109 mm, width is 1786 mm, height is 1518 mm, the wheelbase is 2595 mm, and the ground clearance is 155 mm. In terms of dimensions, the Paceman is a classic representative of city B-class cars.
The interior of the three-door coupe-crossover is almost no different from the brand's brand. The instrument panel is almost one to one taken from the Countryman. It's all the same set of small and large circles - round deflectors and multimedia system screen, pedals and glove box handle, speedometer niche and climate control display. And, of course, steering wheel with roundels of buttons. It is noteworthy that the front sports seats are standard on the Mini Paceman. The slightly elevated position of the front seats improves visibility for the driver and front passenger. Leather interior is available only as an option. All seats have pronounced lateral support. Rear row exclusively double. In the center of the cabin is the rail, to which are attached all kinds of accessories and containers. It is made very stylish.
The luggage compartment has a volume of 330 liters, if all passenger seats are occupied. But if the second row of seats folded, the free space will accommodate 1080 liters.
As the driving force for the Mini Paceman is proposed to choose one of four engines. Two of them - gasoline, plus - a pair of diesel. The “base” petrol unit is the 1.6 liter “aspirated”, which is capable of delivering 122 horsepower. Up to a hundred, this engine accelerates in 10.4 or 11.5 seconds (depending on the gearbox), its maximum speed is 184 or 192 km / h, and fuel consumption per 100 km is 6 or 7.2 liters. This is followed by a gasoline engine with the same volume, but with increased power, which was achieved thanks to the TwinScroll turbocharger. This unit produces already 184 hp Acceleration to a hundred is 7.5 or 7.8 seconds, maximum speed - 217 km / h, fuel consumption - 6.1 or 7.5 liters.
In the line of Mini Paceman diesel engines, the less powerful engine is the 1.6 liter, which gives out 112 horsepower. More powerful - two-liter unit with 143 "horses." Both engines have a variable geometry turbocharger and an identical direct injection system (Common Rail). The average fuel consumption of them, respectively, is 4.4 and 4.6 liters per hundred. Diesel engines will not be brought to Russia. Any and all modifications will be equipped with a choice of either manual or automatic transmission. The first option is "in the database", the second - as an option.
Like the Countryman, the Paceman can be either front-wheel drive only or plug-in. In the latter case, the rear axle is activated via a multi-plate clutch. It is controlled by electronics, so the great off-road achievements from the Mini Paceman can not wait. Sports suspension. Ahead - MacPherson stand, rear - mnogorichazhka.
And as a bonus, Mini prepared a surprise - a version of John Cooper Works Paceman. "Charged" version has a more aggressive design, due to reduced clearance, decorative door sills and other wonders of tuning. The character of JCW is also more sporty than that of the ordinary Paceman. The developers reconfigured the suspension in favor of greater rigidity, added four-wheel drive “to the base” and manned the car with a 1.6 liter turbo engine with 218 horsepower.
The basic equipment MINI Paceman includes electric mirrors with heating, electric windows, air conditioning, central locking, audio system (MP3, CD, AUX). There are additional options. The buyer will be offered climate control, rain and light sensors, xenon adaptive headlights and leather trim. An optional multimedia system is also optionally available, including a 6.5-inch color screen. This complex includes USB, Bluetooth, navigation and voice control, as well as the Harman Kardon music system - it has ten speakers (640 W).
The basic body colors are White Light White, Pure Red Red and Bright Yellow Yellow. There is also a choice of metallic: Light Coffee Brown, True Blue Blue, Royal Gray Dark Gray, Cosmic Blue Dark Blue, Absolute Black Black.
