Hyundai Solaris is not a specially developed model for Russia, but the fourth-generation Accent, which was first shown in April 2010 at the Beijing Auto Show in China. For Russia, by and large, only the name Solaris was developed, in other countries the same car is known as Hyundai Accent, Verna and i25. The car could not be called Accent because inevitably there would be confusion in the minds of buyers with the Accent, which is produced on TagAZ. And they didn’t call Verna, because the third generation of the model with this name already had an unfortunate history in Russia. In June-July 2010, an online competition was held to select a name for a new car on a specially created website on the Internet. Most voters cast their votes to the name Solaris.
All new Hyundai models usually enter the domestic Korean market first, then after a while the markets of China and the United States, which are a priority for foreign markets in Hyundai. And only after this, the new items enter other markets, including Europe and Russia. But for this model, an exception was made to the general rule - first, it appeared in China under the name Verna, then in Russia as Solaris. And only after that - in Korea as Accent.
Solaris combines all the necessary qualities of a modern car, such as build quality, presentable appearance, power, economy and most importantly, of course, price. The car is produced at the plant in St. Petersburg since January 2011 in the sedan version. Hatchback will begin to release in mid-2011.
Externally, the Hyundai Solaris looks very elegant and presentable. Smooth lines of the body are in harmony with the "aggressive" grille and L-shaped fog lights. The basis for the creation of this model served as the platform Hyundai i20, so they have similar dimensions: length - 4370 mm, width - 1700 mm, wheelbase - 2570 mm. Additional dynamics to the exterior of the Solaris gives the side edge, which brings the car from the front bumper to the top of the rear dimensions. A smooth window line, overestimated to the rear rack, creates a modern coupe-like body.
Solaris is distinguished by its capacity and economy. Low fuel consumption is ensured by high-performance DOHC engines of the new generation Gamma, which use the latest multi-point injection technology and variable valve timing system. This provides the Hyundai Solaris sedan with increased power and torque. In the Russian version, Solaris will be available in two trim levels - with two Gamma gasoline engines with a working volume of 1.4 liters or 1.6 liters. The model with a 1.4-liter engine develops 107 hp, and the maximum possible torque - 135 Nm at 5000 r / min. For a 1.6 liter engine, the power is 123 hp, and the maximum torque value is 155 Nm at 4000 rpm. In this case, the car accelerates to 100 km / h in 12.1 seconds (for a model with a 1.4-liter engine), and a model with a 1.6-liter engine capacity - in 10.2 seconds. The choice of the buyer offers a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. The car fully meets environmental standards Euro-4.
The Solaris interior looks stylish, especially in the expensive Comfort and Family accessories, where there are chrome parts and an insert on the front console under the piano lacquer. Quality plastic and upholstery materials in a safe gray color give the cabin solidity and modernity. The driver's seat and steering column have several tilt angles and height adjustment. The ergonomics of the driver at a good level. All buttons, knobs and keys are comfortable and in place. The dashboard is quite informative, instrument readings are well read. Under the console there is a niche for the phone, there are also AUX and USB connectors under the iPod, as well as an outlet.
Three adults behind will be cramped. By the way, Solaris has only two rear head restraints, although the sofa has been molded for three. Stock for legs is enough. And the legs are not frozen - already in the Solaris base it is equipped with air ducts under the front seats. The trunk is opened from the cabin floor lever. The backs of the rear seats fold 60:40. In the horizontal position, they are just above the floor of the luggage compartment, under which a full-size spare tire is hidden. Trunk volume - 454 liters.
Hyundai Solaris was developed taking into account Russian conditions and includes such important characteristics as a fully galvanized body, increased ground clearance up to 160 mm, heated windshield in the wiper zone, rear window heater, battery with increased power (60 h-A) to simplify start the engine in the winter, mud flaps and a larger volume washer tank (4 liters). Double-lever suspension (such as McPherson) was designed to fit the Russian roads and became softer due to increased ground clearance.
The basic equipment Hyundai Solaris will include: airbag for the driver, central locking, front automatic windows, power steering, audio package. For an additional fee will be available: additional airbags, heated seats, mirrors and brushes, ABS (anti-lock brakes), ESP, air conditioning, fog lights and other additional options.
In mid-June 2014, the Korean auto company began selling the updated Solaris. Model 2015 model year has found an improved appearance, the salon with point conversions, as well as acquired new gearboxes. Expanded palette of body paints and a list of optional equipment. Like its predecessor, the restyled version is offered in two body versions - a four-door sedan and a five-door hatchback.
The Koreans did not make global changes in the appearance of Solaris and limited themselves to only partial improvements that made the exterior a bit more modern, more dynamic and slightly more aggressive. Restyled Hyundai Solaris received a completely different design of the front part of the body: trimmed hood and trunk lid, increased false radiator grille with a pair of chrome strips, refreshed optics with a distinctive squint, a new powerful front bumper with daytime running light segments (optional light package implies LED running lights and protivotumanok). With a new face, Solaris looks mature, stylish and even presentable.
The manufacturer has expanded the range of enamels for body painting to nine options: Crystal White (white), Sleek Silver (silver), Mystic Beige (beige metallic), Carbon Gray (gray), Coffee Bean (brown mother-of-pearl), Vitamin C (orange), Garnet Red (red), Darjeeling Blue (nacre) and Phantom Black (black).
In terms of dimensions, the changes are insignificant. The Solaris Sedan slightly grew in length - up to the mark of 4375 mm, and the rest remained the same: the length of the wheelbase is 2570 mm, the width of the body, excluding mirrors, is 1700 mm, the maximum body height is 1470 mm. The height of the ground clearance (ground clearance) remained at the same level of 160 mm. The curb weight of the vehicle ranges from 1,130 to 1,154 kg and depends on the type of engine and equipment level. The volume of the fuel tank - 43 liters. The capacity of the washer reservoir is increased to 4.7 liters. Standard tires are mounted 185/65 R15 on steel wheels 15-size, as an option available tires 195/55 R16 on alloy wheels R16.
The interior of the model has also changed. There was a new upholstery in the rear door panels now have small pockets for small items, and the armrest got a soft top. The audio system and climate control displays have gotten less bright backlighting, the on-board computer screen has received larger icons and symbols.
Another small plus of the updated Solaris sedan is the usable trunk volume, which has grown by 16 liters, and now it can hold 470 liters of cargo (the hatchback has 370 liters).
Solaris 2015 is offered in three trim levels Active, Comfort and Elegance. The list of options has been expanded - for a surcharge, you can now get heated steering wheel and windshield rims, adjusting the steering column on the flight, a rear-view camera that transmits the image to the display located in the salon mirror.
Restyling bypassed engines Solaris. Under the hood, there are still two versions of the gasoline power plant from the Gamma range. The role of the junior engine is performed by a 4-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of 1.4 liters (1396 cm ³), equipped with a 16-valve DOHC type timing belt, multi-point fuel injection and variable valve timing. The maximum power of the junior motor is indicated by the manufacturer at 107 hp, developed at 6300 rpm. At the same time, the peak of torque falls on the mark of 135.4 Nm and is reached at 5000 rev / min. The engine meets the environmental standard Euro-4 and is aggregated with two already familiar owners of Hyundai Solaris gearbox: 5-speed “mechanics” and 4-band “automatic”.
In the first case, the sedan is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 11.5 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 190 km / h. In the second case, the starting acceleration takes 13.4 seconds, and the "maximum speed" is reduced to 170 km / h. Fuel consumption with manual transmission about 7.6 liters in the city, about 4.9 liters on the highway and 5.9 liters in the combined driving cycle. With automatic transmission consumption will increase, respectively, to 8.5 liters in the city, 5.2 liters on the highway and 6.4 liters in the combined cycle.
The top engine has a volume of 1.6 liters (1591 cm³) and power 123 hp Like the younger engine, the flagship fits into the framework of Euro-4, but as a checkpoint, it received new 6-step “mechanics” and “automatic”, inherited from the older Elantra model. With a manual transmission restyled sedan, equipped with a top engine, can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 10.3 seconds, but with the automatic transmission, the first hundred on the speedometer is reached in 11.2 seconds. The maximum speed of the sedan, respectively, is 190 and 185 km / h. Within the city limits, a sedan aggregated by “mechanics” will eat about 8.1 liters of gasoline, 4.9 liters will be limited on the highway, and in mixed mode the fuel consumption should not exceed 6.1 liters. Modifications with automatic transmission are noticeably more voracious: 8.8 liters in the city, 5.2 liters on the highway, and about 6.5 liters in the combined cycle.
The car is based on a front-wheel drive platform with independent front suspension (McPherson struts, anti-roll bar), semi-dependent rear suspension (torsion beam, springs), power steering hydraulic.
