MSN Cars FR-V test drive
Honda FR-V (Flexible Recreation vechicle - versatile car for a pleasant stay) is a six-seater minivan on the extended platform of the CR-V SUV. It combines practicality and functionality with dynamics, great design and build quality. In contrast to the "family" Stream and Shuttle, the Honda FR-V model is served as a sports one. Even the name of the car consists of the same letters as the designation of one of the Honda sport motorcycles - VFR.
Practicality in this car is combined with beauty and elegance: smooth lines of the hood diverge from the grille, emphasizing the sporty character of the minivan. The dynamic design of the body with an elongated nose, piled back with front struts and a new grille with three transverse chrome strips, looks quite aggressive for the family monocab. FR-V is able to attract admiring glances to itself and its owners. The bright appearance of the FR-V has incorporated the individual features of the Accord and Honda S2000 style.
Honda FR-V is the owner of a more than roomy cabin with a spacious and conveniently transformable system of six independent seats, which offers a variety of solutions for accommodating passengers and carrying luggage. Therefore, this car organically combines the most thoughtful convenience of the driver’s seat and the creation of comfortable conditions for all passengers. For example, the legs of an average passenger will not interfere with the process of driving a car, because the gearshift lever is moved to the “beard”, like the latest generation Civic model, and the parking brake lever is under the torpedo. In the absence of a passenger, this seat can be transformed into an armrest, a table or a small bedside table with many compartments for storing small items.
Six separate seats: three in front and three behind. All seats have a longitudinal adjustment, and the rear seats can be removed from the cabin. In addition, the middle seats have a folding backrest that allows you to transport long-length cabin.
Turning a passenger FR-V into a delivery van is easy. It is enough to pull the lever on the back of any of the three sections of the back of the sofa, and the backrest falls. Along the way, the cushion is slightly recessed (this happens automatically), and as a result, the area of a flat, fuzzy floor increases by another quarter of a square meter. The same actions can be done with other seats, and all this will take a few seconds.
The luggage compartment in the standard state with six passengers on board is 439 liters of volume, and with the second row seats removed, this figure rises to 1600 liters. For small luggage in the cabin provides for the mass of tanks.
Honda FR-V has 4285 mm in length, 1610 - in height, 1810 - in width and the best-in-class turning radius of 5.25 m. Compact dimensions once again confirm the maneuverability and balance of the Honda FR-V, which is very important today quality - impeccable smoothness. When cornering at high speed, the car shows minimal rolls, indicating its perfectly balanced design.
The entire dashboard repeats the style and quality of the exterior. At the same time, its construction is very reasonable, since it does not embarrass the people in front at all, providing the driver with easy access to the controls. Everything is done in Hondowski style and quality: the “big-eyed” speedometer, a thin, but neatly wheel-covered steering wheel and many metal inserts on the front console.
The line of power units for the FR-V consists of three engines: two petrol and one diesel. The basic version will be put 1.7-liter gasoline engine with 125 hp with a five-speed manual gearbox. With this engine, the FR-V accelerates to 100 km / h in 12.3 seconds, and the maximum speed is 182 km / h. Declared fuel consumption - 7.95 l / 100 km.
The sporty image of the car is more consistent with the modification with a 2-liter petrol engine with a capacity of 150 hp. With this powertrain, the FR-V gains 100 km / h in 10.5 seconds, and its maximum speed is 195 km / h.
Under the hood, the diesel version is a 2.2-liter engine producing 140 hp, which is aggregated with a six-speed manual transmission.
All three engines comply with Euro-4 standards and are equipped with the VTEC system, first used in Honda engines designed for Formula-1.
The standard Honda FR-V equipment includes ABS, EBD brake force distribution system and brake assist brake assist, plus VSA stabilization system (for cars with 2.0- and 2.2-liter engines).
Created to serve the needs of the family, the Honda FR-V is able to protect it in an emergency. This is confirmed by the 4 stars of the EuroNCAP crash test rating for passenger safety, 3 for pedestrian safety and, most importantly, 4 for child safety.
To ensure a high level of passive safety, there are two front airbags, the second one of increased volume, to protect the long-distance passenger in the middle. There are also side airbags for the front passengers, full-size "curtains" along the length of the entire sidewall and mounting for child seats standard Isofix.
