The GAZ 2308 Ataman is a four-wheel-drive, light-duty full-size cargo SUV, which was first introduced by the Russian automobile company GAZ (Gorky Automobile Plant) in 1996 in Moscow, and it was only launched in 2000. At the heart of the bodywork of the pickup was a welded spar frame. There were three variants of the body: a two-door pickup with a double cabin, a two-door pickup with a four-seater cabin and a 5-door station wagon (Ataman Ermak GAZ). The wheelbase of the car is 3 100 mm, length - 5 060 mm, width - 1 910 mm, height - 2 070 mm. Car load capacity - 800 kg.

For GAZ Ataman, the manufacturer offered two engine options: the basic gasoline four-cylinder power unit ZMZ-405 with a volume of 2.5 liters, whose power was 150 hp; four-cylinder diesel engine GAZ-5601 with a supercharged engine and an intercooler with a volume of 2.1 liters and 110 horsepower. As for the transmission, there was installed a 5-speed manual gearbox. The maximum speed of the car is 140 km / h.

It is equipped with its own suspension, consisting of a coil spring and a shock absorber. Changing the stiffness of the suspension, depending on the weight of the driver is produced by the cam tension mechanism of the main spring by changing its preload. In total there are four positions corresponding to the driver's weight of 60, 75, 85 and 100 kg. Changing the position of the seat height is provided by a screw-type height adjustment mechanism, which allows it to infinitely change its height relative to the cab floor within 80 mm. The longitudinal adjustment of the seat is carried out using a slide with 8 fixed steps and a total travel of 136 mm.
