Mercedes-Benz Citan A car that no one has ever heard

Mercedes-Benz Citan - front-wheel van class "M". The debut of the car took place in 2013 at the industrial exhibition in Hanover. The model was developed on the Renault Kangoo platform. In fact, this is the same car, produced in the same factory, but under different brands. In the model range of the German manufacturer Citan replaced Vaneo.

The car is immediately recognizable as a true representative of the auto giant from Germany, with a big sparkling chrome star on a black grille and an original bumper shape with integrated fog lamps. The German version of the van did not lose in practicality and comfort. Citan is offered in a variety of configurations, including a van, a cargo van, and Mixto, a passenger version. In addition to the number of seats, cars differ in size and carrying capacity. The length can be 3937 mm, 4321 mm, or 4705 mm. The distance between the axles also varies, as well as the length and height of the cargo compartment (up to 2137 and 1258 mm, respectively). The volume of the cargo compartment is up to 3.8 cubic meters, the mass of the transported cargo is up to 735 kg, the permissible gross weight of the car is up to 2.2 tons.

Mersedesovtsy did not copy the interior of Kangoo. The interior is slightly different, however, there are no cardinal differences. In the decoration of Citan used more expensive and high quality materials. In the cabin reigns working atmosphere. Gray upholstery, hard plastic panels, massive handbrake lever. Changed the design of the dashboard. The alarm button has been moved to the top. To the right of the gear lever are the keys for switching off the stabilization system and the start-stop. The steering column, like the Kangoo, is not adjustable for departure. The seat is well shaped. The Germans have improved support for the torso and hips. In the cargo van, the passenger seat is narrower than in the passenger version. Folding it, we get the table.

Citan can be driven by a gasoline or diesel engine. The car is available to Russian buyers with three diesel engines. They all have the same volume, but different power. 1.5-liter power units produce 75, 90 and 110 horsepower. The availability of a 114-horsepower gasoline engine in the Russian market has not yet been reported. Engines with 5-speed or 6-speed manual gearbox are aggregated. In terms of emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere, all engines comply with Euro-5 standards, and when installing the optional BlueEFFICIENCY eco-technology package, they are not only "clean", but also economical, consuming 4.3 to 4 km per 100 km of the combined cycle, 6 liters of fuel.

Technically, the Citan is a car built on a platform with McPherson struts in the front suspension and a torsion beam at the rear. German engineers have seriously worked on the handling. Shortened the springs, put the shock absorbers with different characteristics, set the ninth generation dynamic stabilization system.

Of the help and safety systems, it is worth noting the course stability, the running lights that come on automatically after starting the engine, and headlight and windshield wipers available as an option, which are electronically controlled based on weather conditions and the time of day. Another option is the parking system, which indicates to the driver the distance to the obstacle, making it easier to control and guard against trouble. Unfortunately, Citan does not have outstanding safety records. According to the results of crash tests Euro NCAP, which took place shortly after the debut of the model, the van received a modest three stars.

The manufacturer positions the model as an ideal tool for small urban traffic. The main advantages are reliability, compactness, usefulness for a close city, maneuverability, modest fuel consumption.
