New Toyota Land Cruiser (Prado) 2018 review - see how tough it is!

Land Cruiser Prado is a mid-size SUV of the Japanese concern Toyota. The first generation appeared in 1987, and its important advantages were high throughput with comfort worthy of a car. They offered three- and five-door versions, which were equipped with gasoline (1RZ) and diesel (2L, 2LT, 3L, 1PZ, 1HZ, 1KZ) engines. The Prado 70 series was delivered as a Land Cruiser II or Light Land Cruiser to a number of markets. The first generation of the model was produced for nine years.

The second generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, which received the index "90", was released in 1996. The model is noticeably “grown up” compared to its predecessor. This generation was based on the Toyota 4Runner platform. The exterior design was improved - the body lost its angularity and acquired smooth lines. The positive aspects of the updated SUV can be called good handling, maneuverability, high level of comfort, as well as a wide list of on-board equipment. The Land Cruiser Prado 90 was also offered in 3- and 5-door body styles. He became the first car of the family, equipped with independent front suspension.

Under the hood were installed engines: 5VZ-FE (petrol) with a displacement of 2.7 and 3.4 liters capacity of 150 hp and 178 hp respectively; 1KZ-TE (turbodiesel) with a capacity of 3.0 liters and 125 hp

Transmission with all-wheel drive. There are several transmission modes: H - all-wheel drive with a working center differential (for normal driving modes); HL - center differential blocked (for slippery and wet roads), N - neutral; LL - downshift and locked center differential (for difficult driving conditions).

In June 1999, Toyota re-styled the Prado 90 model. Some changes were made to increase the level of comfort and drive. First of all, they were subjected to the front grille and bumper, door trim and dashboard design. A variety of options have been proposed: Active Traction Control (TRC) control system, vehicle stability control system (VSC) and an automatic transmission for almost all trim levels.

Spacious interior looks cozy inside. High landing provides the driver excellent visibility. Wooden inserts on the instrument panel give it solidity. Auxiliary measuring devices are located on the central panel: a wiper, a compass, and in the middle a multifunctional measuring device. Klynomer monitors the position of the car relative to the horizon, the scales are graduated to 40 degrees. Compass shows the direction of movement. The multifunctional device combines the functions of a thermometer, barometer, altimeter, medium speed lock and timer, all of which are not only given in a certain sequence, but also analyzed by their change over different periods of time.

All kinds of shelves and holders work for overall comfort. If desired, the salon can be easily transformed. The third row of seats folds in the vertical and horizontal planes, folding the second row of seats, we get a full-fledged cargo van.

In July 2000, a new diesel engine 1KD-FTV appeared in the line, which had an increased power of 163 hp, lower fuel consumption and emitted less exhaust gases compared to the diesel 1KZ-TE. In 2002, the production of Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 90 was stopped.

The third generation of the Prado 120 was presented at the Paris Motor Show in September 2002. The car was built on the same platform as the Prado 90. Already traditionally, the new generation was offered in two versions with a 3-door and 5-door bodies. The size of the wheelbase depends on the number of doors: in the short version it is 2455 mm, in the five-door it is 2790 mm. The third generation embodied Toyota's many years of experience in the SUV market and the combination of high-quality Japanese assembly with a modern European design.

The petrol 2.7 liters (163 or 150 hp), 3.4 liters (185 hp), 4.0 liters (249 hp) and diesel 3.0 liters (95 or 173 hp) engines that worked in tandem with a 5-speed manual, or with 4 or 5-speed automatic transmissions.

All-wheel drive is made according to the connected scheme of the Arab versions, and in the performance of a permanent drive from the Europeans. The European modification has a central differential of the Torsen type, which distributes power between the front and rear axles in a ratio of 40% to 60%. If necessary, the Torsen differential can be locked to improve patency. The front suspension of an SUV is independent, the rear is semi-independent (on both axles it is a double-lever).

The package Prado 120 includes: the world's first system of assistance when climbing up the hill (HAC – Hill-start Assist Control), which helps to get off the ground up the slippery slope and prevents the car from sliding sideways; downhill assistance system (DAC – Downhill Assist Control), which increases safety when driving on steep descents; Stability Program (VSC); electronic suspension control system (TEMS - Toyota Electronic Modulated Suspension) of the latest generation; active traction control system (A-TRC), which provides the necessary initial traction and acceleration on slippery roads, and also improves the car’s handling.

Top of the range includes a first-class radio with a CD-changer and 9 speakers, power steering, power windows with anti-pinch protection on all doors, exterior rear-view mirrors with electric drive, Optitron backlit instrument panel that provides a clear image without glare and reflections . The climate control system allows the driver and the front passenger to separately regulate the temperature in their seats. For passengers of the second row of seats, a separate air conditioning control panel is provided, allowing them to regulate the temperature at the rear of the cabin.

The Prado brake system is one of the most reliable among cars of this class. Its distinctive features are disc brakes on all wheels with ventilated discs and a brake pedal with a sensitivity adjustment mechanism that allows the driver to better “feel” the car when braking.

The body is characterized by increased rigidity, with deformable areas at the front and rear that absorb the force of impact. They are responsible for passive safety: driver and front passenger airbags, equipped with distance sensors and impact forces, are revealed in two stages; 3-point seat belts for all seats, the front ones are equipped with pretensioners. The list of active safety systems includes VSC, A-TRC, ABS, EBD and Brake Assist systems.

Prado 120 combines the best balance between off-road performance and comfort level.

In 2005, the model was easy restyling. Appearance has not changed. Spare wheel was removed under the bottom of the trunk. Significantly expanded the list of modifications. The third generation of the Prado SUV lasted on the line from 2002 to 2009.

In 2009, the fourth generation Land Cruiser Prado 150 debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The car was built on an improved 120 series platform. The wheelbase remained unchanged and is 2790 mm. External dimensions increased. The length of the SUV is 4,760 mm, width - 1,885, height - 1,880. The ground clearance is 220 mm. The luggage compartment of the 5-seater version ranges from 621 to 1,934 liters, and from 104 to 1,833 conditional liters of luggage can be loaded into the 7-seater cabin.

The exterior of the Prado 150 is distinguished by an abundance of non-trivial elements and forms, hypertrophied "bulges" over the wheel arches, slanted headlights. Absolutely different "mood" in the cabin. The design of the center console is dominated by the correct geometric shapes, the torpedo is devoid of any pretentiousness, the digitization of the instrument panel scales is not too frequent, which, together with a moderately bright backlight, implies good readability.

The car is supplied to the Russian market with three engine options: petrol 2.7 liters (163 hp), 4.0 liters (282 hp) and diesel volume of 3.0 liters (173 hp). Three transmission options are available to potential buyers: a 5-speed manual gearbox, as well as 4- and 5-band automatic machines.

Spar carrier frame strengthened to increase the rigidity of the structure to bend. Prado has a permanent four-wheel drive in the ratio of 50x50 axes, in some versions of the off-road vehicle, the Multi-Terrain System is available, which adjusts the suspension operation under certain coating conditions (4 modes are provided: stones, gravel, snow, viscous dirt). There are locking differentials - the central and rear axle.

The Elegance package includes rain and light sensors, a 9-speaker audio system, car access and ignition key starting systems, parking sensors and a rear-view camera.

Restyled version of all-wheel drive SUV Toyota Land Cruiser Prado was first introduced to the general public in the late summer of 2013. The car is still offered in two body styles (3- and 5-door), with 5- or 7-seater interior. The car length slightly increased, the exterior refreshed, new colors appeared in the body color, the interior also received some changes, in addition to this, the suspension was modernized. Now about everything in order.

Land Cruiser Prado 2014 model year with five doors 20 mm longer than its predecessor, its length is 4780 mm. The three-door version is also increased by 20 mm, its length - 4335 mm. The wheelbases for both models are the same. Overall dimensions of the car increased due to the recycled front bumper. But as the company representatives say, the front overhang, which was increased in length by 20 mm, did not affect the angle of entry either.

Restyled version received a new optics with daytime running lights and a modified grille. In different configurations grille with five vertical strips has a different finish. In the basic modification of the Entry, it is simply black, in others it stands out against the general background with a metallic or silver glitter. Also, the changes affected the rear bumper and rear lights. The line of color shades consists of ten colors, which included four new ones.

Not without changes and inside the car. Designers are offered a new perusal of the dashboard, crowned with a 4.2-inch TFT monitor, the dashboard and door cards trim has changed, the second and third row seats have become more comfortable. Inside, new fabrics and new color schemes have appeared. The level of noise and vibrations has been reduced.

Under the hood, Toyota offers two engines and two gearboxes.

Petrol 4-liter V6 capacity of 282 hp and 385 Nm of torque. Acceleration to 100 km / h will take 10.9 seconds. The maximum speed reaches the threshold of 185 km / h. Fuel consumption in the combined cycle of 10.8 l / 100 km with CO2 emissions is 256 g / km. The engine works exclusively with a 5-speed automatic transmission.

The three-liter turbodiesel has been modernized and now meets the requirements for exhaust emission Euro-5 +. This motor is capable of producing 190 horsepower at 3400 rpm and 420 Nm of torque in the range from 1600 to 3000 rpm. The three-door version, equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission, reaches the first 100 km / h in 10.2 seconds (equipped with 6-speed mechanics - in 10.6 seconds). The maximum speed of the SUV is 175 km / h. Consumption of diesel fuel in the combined cycle of 8.1 liters per 100 kilometers. The five-door Prado with a diesel engine accelerates to 100 km / h in 11 seconds.

The front suspension of the 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is represented by double parallel A-arms, and at the rear by four longitudinal and one transverse thrust. In expensive versions, the SUV is equipped with an adaptive suspension (AVS), which is able to vary its characteristics depending on the type of road.

Four-wheel drive is controlled by a system that distributes torque along the axes in accordance with the proportions (from 50x50 to 30x70). In addition to permanent all-wheel drive with differential locks, the LC Prado offers a number of "off-road" systems, including KDSS, suspension system (Multi-terrain Select system, paired with automatic transmission), help system for overcoming obstacles move (Crawl Control). Another new electronic assistant is the trailer sway control system.

Four trim levels are available for the Land Cruiser Prado 2014: Entry, Legend, Prestige and Executive, the first of which will be the starting one and assumes the presence of 17-inch disks, basic audio system, automatic climate control, fabric seats and a system that monitors the pressure and temperature in tires.

Options Legend has an additional exterior trim chrome accents, rear-view mirrors with heated and electric, steering wheel / handbrake / gearshift knob trimmed with leather, cruise control and alloy wheels 17-inch. In the list of options there are LED optics, multimedia system Toyota Touch 2 with nine speakers, leather seats, KDSS and cast on 18-inches.
