The first generation of the Toyota Corolla Verso compact van made its debut in 2001, three years later it was replaced by a larger second-generation model.

Styling models for 2004 was designed in the design studio "Toyota ED2" taking into account the tastes of European buyers. The body of the Corolla Verso can be visually divided into two parts. The lower part includes bumpers, wheel arches and panels. The top is a curvilinear roof and rear side windows that give the car a dynamic look. The Toyota brand's personality is underlined by the familiar triangular shape of the rear side panels and the taillights in the shape of an inverted "L". Thanks to the careful design of the Corolla Verso, the body’s drag coefficient is 0.30, the best in the class.

Corolla Verso with Toyota Corolla is related only to the name. Platform kinship, like the first generation of the five-seat Verso, no. The market required a seven-seater modification, and, in order not to overload the chassis, it was decided to use the components and assemblies of the larger Avensis. As a result, the width of the compact van increased by 65 mm, the base - by 150 mm, and the maximum weight - by 300 kg. It turned out a completely new independent model, but the name of the Toyota Corolla Verso retained.

The Corolla Verso trump card is a comfortable, spacious saloon that can seat seven adults. Thanks to the Easy Flat 7 system with seven separate adjustable seats, the car has the broadest possible transformation of the passenger compartment. All five seats of the second and third row can be folded and get a spacious, completely flat area. The Easy Flat-7 system offers thirty seat layouts.

The luggage compartment can vary from 91 to 779 liters. By folding all the seats, we get an impressive space: 1980 mm in length and 1370 mm in width.

For the convenience of drivers, the height of the front seats, the reach and tilt of the steering wheel are adjusted. The creators of the Corolla Verso paid special attention to the ergonomics of the driver's seat - devices and controls are intuitively simple and convenient.

As befits a car of this level, the Corolla Verso is equipped with a whole range of security systems designed to improve the car’s handling and help avoid unpleasant situations. In crash tests EuroNCAP Corolla Verso received five stars and scored 35 points, showing the highest result in the class. The construction of this car integrated interior protection system MICS (Minimal Intrusion Cabin System), developed by Toyota. In the car there are several elements that have become novelties in this class of cars, for example, a complete set of nine airbags (including airbags to protect the knees) and a two-stage system of light and sound warnings about the seatbelt.

From the Avensis, the compact van also got improved brakes - four disc mechanisms ensure safety with anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD). And on the more expensive version of the Corolla Verso, there is also an emergency brake assist (BA), directional stability (VSC) and anti-skidding (TRC).

Gamma of engines: petrol 1.6 l (110 hp); 1.8 l (129 hp) and turbo diesel for Europe with a volume of 2.0 l (116 hp) with a CR system and a diesel particulate filter and 2.0 l (90 hp). KP choice - 5-step "mechanics", 4-or 5-step "automatic". For the Japanese market, the Corolla Spacio is offered with 1.5-liter engines (109 hp) or 1.8-liter engines and only with a 4-speed automatic transmission.

In the Russian market, the Toyota Corolla Verso is offered only in the seven-seater version and only with a 1.8 l petrol engine, but in two trim levels: “Terra” and “Sol”. The Terra version is equipped with electric drive and heated side mirrors, ABS, radio with CD, nine airbags, air conditioning and front electric windows. This version is equipped with a conventional manual gearbox Terra, as well as a robotic manual gearbox (M-MT). The Sol version is offered only with a robotized gearbox and is additionally equipped with an ESR, climate control, a full set of electric window lifters and cruise control.

Production of the Corolla Verso is deployed at the TMMT plant in Adapazari (Turkey), and the Japanese version (Corolla Spacio) is assembled at the Higashi-Fuji plant.
