In 2012, the assembly of the Peugeot 408 sedan began in Russia at a plant in the Kaluga region. Before launching the Russian car production, special tests were carried out on domestic roads, for example, in the Urals and in the Arctic. After testing, the sedan was finalized taking into account the climatic and road conditions. Peugeot 408 will be the first model of the French car brand, gathering in our country on a full cycle.

As a result of the improvements, now all cars coming off the assembly line of the plant are nominally equipped with steel protection of the engine compartment, a full-size "spare wheel". They have a more powerful battery and a starter, a larger volume windscreen washer tank (4.9 l), as well as extended and enlarged air ducts in cross section, supplying warm air to the legs of the rear passengers. Moreover, acquiring a car even in the initial Access configuration (there are three equipment levels: Access, Active, Allure), customers can order a winter package by heating the windshield in the zone of rest of the wiper blades, adjustable heated front seats and windshield washer nozzles.

In the Asian market, the sedan is sold with gasoline 4-cylinder engines of 1.6 and 2.0 liters, and a capacity of 106 and 147 hp, which are combined with a four-speed automatic or five-speed manual gearbox.

A wider range of power units is available on the Russian market. Three petrol engines of 1.6 liters each provide 110 hp, 120 hp and 150 hp and one 1.6 liter diesel with 112 hp The diesel version shows record fuel consumption in its class - only 5 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle. As an available type of transmission for the 110-hp petrol and diesel modifications, only the 5-speed “mechanics” is available. For the 120-strong version, the manufacturer offers, in addition to the “mechanics,” an upgraded 4-speed automatic, which received a torque converter from the company ZF and a new hydraulic unit, which made it possible to significantly reduce delays during switching. "Top" modification with a 150-horsepower engine equipped with a turbocharger, is available only with a 6-step "automatic" from the company Aisin.

Basic equipment includes ABS, emergency braking, anti-skidding (REF), two front airbags, central locking of doors, heated exterior mirrors with electric, metal engine protection, and an on-board computer.

In the Active configuration, the car is additionally equipped with a dynamic stabilization system (ESP), which is turned off at a speed of up to 40 km / h (provided only for the version with a turbocharged engine), fog lights, air conditioning, front seats with adjustable heating, a CD-RD4 MP3 car radio with control audio system on the steering column.
