Back in 1929, at the Paris Motor Show, Peugeot started the tradition of giving its car models three-digit numbers that have a zero in the middle. The first such model was the little car "Peugeot 201". Until now, the numbering of cars Peugeot had a clear decoding: the first digit indicates the size or class of the car, the last digit - the current generation, and the zero between them was a connecting element. From now on, the French decided to abandon the tradition of more than eighty years. Three digits with zero in the middle will remain, but when the model is updated, the numbers will no longer change their number. Thus, as before, the first digit means the size or class of the car. But the latter indicates the prestige of the model, ranging from 1 to 8. Thus, the unit indicates the most affordable budget models.

External dimensions of the Peugeot 301 are quite impressive for this class: length - 4440 mm, width - 1770 mm, height - 1470 mm. The wheelbase is 2650 mm, ground clearance - 160 mm.
