Nissan Serena - a full-size compact minivan with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

Nissan Serena (body C23) first appeared in 1990 in Japan. Since the end of 1992 produced in Spain.

Among the versatile high-capacity Nissan Serena is one of the smallest. The car has a rather high body (1840 mm), which is much larger than its width (1710 mm), while the length of the car is 4315 mm. Thus, it is possible to place two seats in the cabin in the front, in the back - two two-seat sofas, which are not particularly wide and not very comfortable - there is not even armrests. The average, as is often the case, has an additional folding seat on the right of the door. With this arrangement, no more than eight people can fit inside, and the trunk should be forgotten - there is simply no place to put it. However, if a smaller number of people are sent to the trip, then, if necessary, an acceptable variant of the seat arrangement is selected, which frees up space for the cargo (from 350 to 700 liters).

The interior is simple and modest. The driver’s seat has a primitive design that is typical for the “Japanese” of those years, and ergonomics. The driver's seat turns 180 degrees and has only two adjustments, and those are mechanical. The front panel is unpretentious, but not without pleasant roundness. The selector machine, being a decent size, constantly reminds of itself. The steering wheel is small and, thanks to hydraulics, does not require the application of force - you can twist it with one finger. The steering column is adjustable tilt, windows and mirrors are equipped with electric drives. Visibility due to large rear-view mirrors is quite satisfactory. The air conditioner was also installed, although the cool-in summer, thanks to two hatches and three lowered windows, allows the salon to do without air conditioning. Passengers of the second row of seats feel quite comfortable due to the large legroom. The third folding row of seats is much less convenient, since, firstly, it is inconvenient to climb there even with the back of the right-hand second-row seat reclined. Secondly, legs have nowhere to go. Conveniently there will be only children. Unlike many competitors in the Nissan Serena, you cannot turn the middle row of seats into a table when folded.

The cars are equipped with gasoline R4 engines with electronic injection systems of 1.6 and 2.0 liters with a capacity of 97 and 126 hp. respectively, as well as a 2.0-liter diesel (CD20T) with 66 hp. In 1995, a 2.3-liter diesel engine with 135 hp was added to the engine range. Although the CD20T is not considered to be a very reliable engine, but with timely oil change (after 5000 km and of course using at least Korean oils), there are no problems with fuel consumption, power and compression.

The engines are aggregated with a 5-speed manual gearbox, for an additional fee they installed an “automatic”, mostly it is found on the Japanese all-wheel-drive version - Nissan Vanette. Maximum speed depending on the engine from 135 to 170 km / h.

On the road, the car shows constant tossing of the back, not quite a clear grip, but the steering sensitivity is sharper than that of many competitors, and the body less “collapses” in the corners, but the side wind influences very much, so the Serena floats along the road already starting at speeds of 80-90 km / h. Quite clearly audible engine does not add comfort. In addition to noise and increased "jumping" to the disadvantages include a rather weak undercarriage - the front suspension is rather weak, the ball is clearly not designed for high mileage on our roads, the rear suspension is lever, on simple springs that leave much to be desired. Front brake ventilated disc, rear - drum. Maneuverability of the car is good, you can easily unfold in a fairly limited space (turning diameter of 10.8 m).

In late 1996, new bumpers were installed on the Serena model.

In 2000, the premiere of the new generation Nissan Serena took place - a minivan with a transverse engine, rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Car design has become more aggressive. The new Serena has retained the classic layout, has gained an independent suspension for all wheels, has become 200 mm longer with the same overall width and height. The capacity of the 5-door body, depending on the location of the seats is from 5 to 8 people. Trunk volume 520 liters. All models offer a five-door version of the body, with sliding rear doors that simplify entry and exit in cramped conditions. With a full load of Serena - long journeys can not cause joy and will not bring pleasure. This minivan, like its predecessor, is still a city car.

Powertrains include a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with electronic injection system with a capacity of 145 hp. and continuously variable mechanical transmission CVT, 2.5-liter turbocharged diesel with direct injection of 150 hp with hydromechanical 4-speed "automatic". The maximum speed of 165 and 170 km / h, respectively.
