The car received an interesting name Terracan, which consists of two words (lat. "Terra" - earth, and Turkish "Khan" - king, ruler). When the car existed only at the level of the concept, it bore the name Hyundai Highlander. In 2001, in Geneva, journalists were presented with a serial version already called Terracan. With this name, he went on sale, but not everywhere, in some markets two models are offered - the “simple” Terracan and the more advanced and expensive Terracan Highlander. Their difference is in all-wheel drive systems.

The "simple" Terracan rear-wheel drive with a rigidly connected front axle - the company calls it EST (Electric Shift Transfer). Enable all-wheel drive can be with the driver's seat at speeds up to 80 km / h, while the torque is distributed between the axles in the ratio of 50:50.

The Terracan Highlander system is more complicated - permanent all-wheel drive ATT (Active Torque Transfer), in which the front axle connects smoothly and automatically if the rear wheels start to slip. In particularly difficult cases, up to half of the torque is applied to it. If desired, the front axle can be enabled permanently.

The latest version features a chrome grille and door handles, leather upholstery, wood trim.

The exterior of the Huyndai Terracan is quite memorable: a powerful air intake on the hood, large bright headlights, a solid body kit with massive bumpers, heavy taillights. The profile of the model, on which the rear spoiler stands out, gives the overweight silhouette a peculiar elegance, is also very characteristic. Dimensions: length - 4710 mm, width - 1860 mm, height - 1790 mm.

In general, the appearance looks correct and verified. Optics is not without originality. For example, relief reflectors and bulbs with special lampshade caps are visible under the transparent color cap from the back.

The interior is made in European style. Laconic, almost direct torpedo. The dashboard is simple and trivial. It is located on: speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauges and engine temperature gauges. The steering wheel and center console have inlays under the tree. The high seating position and large glass area ensured excellent visibility.

On the center console is a radio, under it - a small box for small items, even lower - an electronic climate control unit. Ashtray on lifter, extends after a light touch. On the central tunnel, in addition to the automatic transmission selector, there are a rotating transmission control knob and a button for turning on the rear window wiper and washer.

In the second row, if you fold the armrest, the three will fit perfectly, but in the middle it will not be very comfortable - both the seat and the back are shaped for two. By the way, there is a seven-seater version of the car with a third row of seats.

Despite the wide door, the high threshold slightly complicates access to the salon.

Terracan has a spacious luggage compartment and folding rear seats in parts. For small things in the cargo compartment has a special mesh.

The basic version of the Terracan is equipped with front disc and rear drum brakes. If you order ABS for an additional fee, you will automatically receive disc brakes on the rear wheels and the EBD system (distribution of braking force). The list of additional equipment also includes an electric sunroof, air conditioning, a premium audio system with a CD changer, and much more - all you need to have a large prestigious jeep. In mid-2004, the Terracan family of off-road vehicles on a frame chassis was upgraded. Updated car noticeably freshened. Well-known, austere classic look diluted with original modern features. New design received front and rear bumpers, grille, steps, side pads on the body. The optics has been solved in a new way - rear lights and front fog lights. There are new alloy wheels.

The interior has an improved front panel. The updated console between the front seats has become even more comfortable and versatile.
