The All-New Honda Stepwgn

Honda Stepwgn is a mid-size minivan that stands out for its capacity and height. Unlike the Honda Odyssey and Honda Stream, it can accommodate up to eight people. The first generation of this car appeared in May 1996. This monobyl immediately gained high popularity, largely due to Honda’s flexible pricing policy and a large, flat-floored interior space through the use of front-wheel drive. Initially, the car was offered exclusively for the Asian market.

Stepwgn first generation differed almost rectangular body. The simple, no-frills design had a positive effect on the overall image of the car. The minivan received two doors, a passenger sliding door and a hinged rear gate. Salon could be 5-seater in two rows of seats and 8-seater in three rows of seats. Two options were proposed for using the middle row of seats: either rotating, allowing passengers to face each other, or comfortable, comfortable seating. The heart of Stepwgn was a 2-liter inline 4-cylinder DOHC engine with a power of 125 or 135 hp, which was paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Drive: front or full.

In 1999, a little changed the design of the front of the body, improved driving performance and performance.

Five years later, in April 2001, the second generation of the model came out and held on the conveyor until April 2005. Stepwgn II began to look more modern, but still "square." Initially, this generation was also equipped with only one 2.0-liter engine, 4-speed automatic and two types of drive. But the engine was already a new 160 hp. The power unit successfully combined a very decent dynamic performance and high fuel efficiency. But two years later, in June 2003, Stepwgn received another engine: a 2.4-liter capacity of 162 hp. This engine was mainly installed on the top version of Stepwgn Spada, which, in addition to a more heavy-duty motor, also received a different design for the front and rear parts of the car with reduced headlights and taillights with new diffusers. The salon version of Stepwgn Spada was made in strict dark colors.

The third generation of this automotive family was born in 2005. The design has remained all the same charming, but it has become much more elegant and swift. Friendly mood gives a "smiling" grille and Oriental-led headlights. A swiftness brings an ascending subwindow line, coupled with an even steeper zone vyshtampovka, as well as "combined" door handles. The boomerangs of headlights stretched backward visually conceal the massiveness and height of the short bonnet. In order to give Stepwgn more attractiveness in terms of everyday driving, it was decided to reduce its length and height in order to make it possible to bring the minimum turning radius to 3.5 meters.

In the new car is no longer inherent inherent in Stepwgn first generation. Here the cabin is more spacious and more comfortable. A dashboard stretched across the front panel in a narrow dark stripe. On a kind of center console, depending on the configuration, there can be either a screen of a large dvuhdinovaya radio, combined with the navigation system, or a full-color color monitor, allowing not only to obtain information about the state of the main components of the machine or its location in space, but also to watch DVDs or TV shows . And in the most expensive versions, under this screen and the air conditioning unit is a multimedia controller that controls all the electronic options of the machine. It all looks very stylish and modern.

Another highlight of the salon - optional flooring, very similar to laminate flooring - makes the cabin a kind of living room. At the same time, the floor itself turned out to be perfectly flat throughout its length - largely due to the fact that the fuel tank was moved to the rear part of the body. But that's not all! The Japanese were able to originate even in relation to the ceiling: inside it seems to be stretched all the way around. And in the center there are three hatches with central "partitions" and curtain retractable sideways. Together with additional ceiling lights, ordered separately, all this even at night gives the cabin more light, space and comfort. There are a number of very useful options. For example, the IHCC system, that is, the "autopilot" device, which allows you to monitor the distance to the vehicle in front. Or a 6-piece sun filter, which turns out to be, by the way, on an elongated (1.68 m) and translucent roof.

Engine, as in the previous generation, there are two: 2.0 and 2.4 liters. Thanks to the upgraded i-VTEC valve control system, the power of the first reaches 155 and the second 200 hp. Transmission on all cars without exception, but with a different number of gears. So, on a 2-liter car with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive stands an “automatic” with 4 gears. On a car equipped with a 2.4-liter engine in the case of a complete set of four-wheel drive - a 5-step "automatic", and in the case of a front-wheel-drive configuration - a variator with manual keyboard shift mode.

The exact translation of the name of the car - Stepwgn - causes difficulties. Possible option - "walking van" (Step - step, Wagon - van). However, it is indisputable that the new Honda Stepwgn is a step forward, taking the car to a new level of comfort and functionality, and allowing it to claim a leading position in its class.
