Lada Granta vs Datsun on-Do. Well, the divorce is the same!
The budget on-DO sedan is the first model of the Datsun brand introduced in Russia. Moreover, the car was specially designed for our market. The world premiere took place in April 2014 in Moscow, presented a novelty by Renault-Nissan President and CEO of Renault-Nissan, Carlos Ghosn.
The Japanese so decipher the name of the model: DO is a word associated with Japanese traditional culture, which means “way” - a consistent and methodical principle of doing business. Another meaning is movement. Therefore, completely on-DO can be interpreted as freedom of movement.
At the heart of the car is the load-bearing structure of the body models Lada Kalina / Granta, ranging from the platform and ending with the roof and doorways. The five-seater sedan is 4337 mm long, 1700 wide, and 1500 mm high. In addition, on-DO is adapted to Russian realities: the ground clearance is 168 mm. But this is with a full load (five people in the cabin and 50 kg in the trunk). And with only one driver clearance is 185 mm. The trunk is one of the largest in the segment "B" - 530 liters. If this useful volume does not seem enough, it is possible to fold the rear seats and increase the size of the luggage compartment more than doubled.
The 1.6 engine (87 hp, 140 N • m) is also from AvtoVAZ, just like the five-speed “mechanics”.
But there are enough improvements in comparison with the domestic “donor”. The power structure of the body was strengthened, the Japanese abandoned the windows behind the rear doors. The on-DO exterior design due to the use of more modern optics, a different configuration of wings, bumpers with bright aerodynamic chips and other details turned out to be more solid and stylish. The front of the body is decorated with a large trapezium false radiator grille with a wide chrome frame and neat coarse-grained mesh, compact and strict headlights, a modest-sized bumper trimmed from the bottom, and large rear-view mirrors with low aerodynamic drag. The rear of the sedan received the original ceiling lighting and large-sized tailgate, providing easy access to the luggage compartment.
The interior of the on-DO sedan is based on the inner world of the Lada Granta and Lada Kalina, but it is strikingly different in the architecture of the front panel, center console and dashboard. Ventilation deflectors on the sides of the dashboard retained their shape and location, as in the cabin of VAZ models, while the central ones took the form of rectangles. But the steering wheel, seats, door card design got the Japanese sedan from the Russian brothers.
According to the developers, the sound and noise insulation of the cabin has been significantly improved, the calibration of springs, shock absorbers and the overall characteristics of the suspension have been changed. on the settings of the upgraded suspension worked specialists Renault and Nissan. The front MacPherson strut, rear torsion beam, used gas-filled shock absorbers. Front disc brakes, rear drum brakes, power steering electric.
According to preliminary information, the basic configuration of the on-DO sedan implies the presence of a driver's airbag, ABS, electric heated mirrors and heated first-row seats, Isofix attachment for child seats. As options, the manufacturer offers a frontal airbag for the passenger, side airbags, ESP (stabilization system), a multimedia system with a touchscreen, the Citigid navigator, climate control, heated windshield, alloy wheels 14-15 size.
The on-DO model has been produced at the Togliatti AvtoVAZ facilities since July 2014. This sedan is planned to be sold not only in Russia, but in Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
