The front-wheel drive model Daihatsu Opti belongs to the family of compact mini-cars, which this manufacturer also includes Cuore, Mira and Move.
The model was produced with three body types: hatchback (from January 1992 to October 1998), a sedan (1998–2002) and a soft-top convertible (1992–1997). The appearance of the Opti is distinguished by its smooth lines, which meets the marketing purpose of the car, as products for female drivers. Considerable popularity was enjoyed by the Classic series cars, on the exterior of which there were elements of the “retro” style, and the interior of which was trimmed “under the skin”. Also produced "psevdosportivnaya" modification of the Club Colt.
Dimensions of the 3-door (or 5-door) 4-seater hatchback 3295/1395/1430 mm with a wheelbase of 2280 mm and a track 1220/1210 mm. Curb weight - 760 kg. Height clearance - 155 mm. The internal dimensions of the cabin are 1650/1175/1150 mm.
The second generation model consisted of only 4-door 4-seater sedan in the body type hard top. At first, the lineup was divided into a regular sedan and a version for active driving of the Vix Series. In 2000, the car was launched from the Classic series, in which the classic features of the cabin were complemented by leather trim, as in expensive cars. After that, the lineup was divided into a series of Vix and Classic series.
The dimensions of the sedan's body increased to 3395/1475/1405 mm with a wheelbase of 2360 mm and a gauge of 1300/1260 mm. Curb weight increased to 810 kg, and the clearance decreased by 5 mm - became 150 mm.
Salon Opti sedan is small, as well as the trunk. The internal dimensions are 1675/1205/1150 mm. Comfortably in the car could feel no more than two adults of standard size. Visibility from the driver's seat is satisfactory.
The list of basic equipment of the first generation machines included: rear spoiler, tinted windows, roof rails (for 4WD), rear wiper, air conditioning and radio. For an additional fee, it was possible to install a central locking system, a CD player, a navigation system, and alloy wheels.
Second-generation cars were completed richer: additionally supplied electric mirrors, power windows, central locking with remote key, wood trim, CD player and alloy wheels.
On the Opti, 3-cylinder 6V carburetor overhead valves with a lower camshaft were installed. EF-ZL and EF-VE engines were 0.659 liters and ranged from 42 to 64 hp. (including - with a turbo-supercharging). Under the hood, the motors were located transversely. Consumption of gasoline AI-92 - about 6.2 liters per 100 km in the urban cycle.
Engines were aggregated both with 5-step mechanical, and with 3-and 4-step hydromechanical "automatic".
The basic equipment Opti is equipped with front-wheel drive, but there are also versions with all-wheel drive. The latter are equipped with a Part time 4WD system paired with a 5-speed manual or a full time 4WD system with a 4-speed automatic.
The front suspension is a wishbone with a spring-loaded strut and lateral stabilizer; back - 5-link (or 3-link) with an inclined lever, springs and transverse stabilizer.
The front brake disc, rear - drum. The standard tire size is 145SR12 or 155 / 65R13 73S (on the latest generation cars).
Steering gear-rack with power. The minimum turning radius is 4.6 m (for cars of the first generation) and 4.3 m (for models from 1998-2002).
Passive safety in a car is ensured by two airbags, a stiffener in the doors, three-point seat belts, an additional brake light and a ruggedized body. There is also a special mounting child seat. The active safety system provides for the installation of ABS (optional).
