The Chevrolet Equinox is a mid-size crossover, the prototype of which was first introduced by the American car company Chevrolet (a division of General Motors) in 2003 at the Detroit auto show. Serial production of this SUV began in 2004, as part of the 2005 model range. The predecessors of the Equinox crossover were the Chevrolet Tracker and Chevrolet Blazer SUVs (in Messiksik), which he replaced. The Chevrolet Equinox is technically quite similar to such cars as the Saturn VUE, Pontiac Torrent and 2007 Suzuki XL7 - all built on the GM Theta platform. However, Equinox and Torrent are larger than the Saturn VUE, with a wheelbase of 2,857 mm, which is 150 mm longer than the Saturn. The length of the Chevrolet Equinox is 4,796 mm, width - 1,814 mm, height - 1,760 mm. The SUV comes standard with front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive equipment is offered as an option.

The 2005 Chevrolet Equinox crossover model range is equipped with a 3.4-liter LNJ V6 engine, whose power is 185 hp. The engine itself is assembled in China. As for the transmission, here is installed 5-speed automatic transmission Aisin AF33, which in turn comes from Japan. The brake system of the car includes front disc and rear drum brakes.

When developing the Chevrolet Equinox, one of the main tasks was to make it the most versatile. As a result, the proprietary transformation system Mult-Flex was applied here. It lies in the fact that the rear seats can move back and forth on special runners, or even removed, creating a roomy cargo compartment.

In 2008, a new version of the Chevrolet Equinox called Sport was introduced. The technical equipment of the crossover has been thoroughly revised. The car received a new power unit LY7 V6 DOHC of 3.6 liters, whose power is 275 hp. The new more powerful engine allows the SUV to accelerate to 100 km / h in just seven seconds. Changes affected transmissions. Instead of the previous 5-speed “automatic”, a 6-speed GM 6T70 automatic gearbox is already installed here.

The exterior of the Chevrolet Equinox Sport has also been updated. The SUV got a new bumper and 18-inch wheels.

It is worth noting that, in addition to the version of Equinox Sport, one more equipment was added to the model range called the Equinox LTZ. Its main distinguishing features were chrome door handles and decorative elements of the body, as well as chrome 17-inch wheels. The standard interior of this version included leather trim, airbags, a high-quality Pioneer seven-speaker stereo system and a six-disc CD changer.

Production of the Chevrolet Equinox continues successfully today.
