The X1 is a compact five-seat crossover. Production of the car began at the plant in Leipzig, Germany in October 2009. The design is designed in the new corporate style of the company with a mass of curved lines and fancy sidewalls consisting of deep reliefs and curved stampings. The drive can be rear (such modifications are called sDrive) or full (xDrive). In the engine range of the BMW's most compact crossover, there are five engines with an unconditional emphasis on the diesel family. The basic modifications were the petrol sDrive18i (150 hp) and diesel xDrive18d (143 hp). The most massive modification: a two-liter diesel xDrive20d with a capacity of 177 hp The diesel modification complements the picture: xDrive23d with a twin-turbo diesel four with a capacity of 204 hp. The petrol version of the xDrive28i with a three-liter "six" has a power of 258 hp. Together with the engines are six-speed manual or automatic transmission. It is expected that the range of power units will be updated.

Innovation potential is also evident in the equipment of the BMW X1 with the most advanced suspension systems, which include a double-hinged front suspension with push levers or an aluminum double-hinged front suspension with traction levers, as well as a five-arm lightweight steel rear suspension, high-precision steering, powerful brakes, dynamic stability control with a thrust control system and, as an option, a Performance Control system that acts on the brakes for driving in a particularly dynamic style.

X1 received high marks in all categories of safety, the highest standard of these tests: five stars in Euro NCAP tests. The car provides the highest level of active and passive safety. The body is made of new-generation steel, which allows you to absorb impact energy in areas of controlled deformation and protect passengers. The basic equipment of the car includes three-point inertia seat belts in all places, front and side airbags, as well as head protectors, adaptive brake lights and daytime running lights. Xenon headlights, adaptive headlights and high beam control are available as options.

The updated crossover BMW X1 2013 model year made its debut at the April New York Auto Show in 2012. The novelty can be distinguished from its predecessor by a different front bumper with silver details, increased grille nostrils, updated side skirts and a modified rear bumper. The car received a different design of headlights with LED lights and ring lights for day trips in combination with xenon headlights, as well as a new edging "protivotumanok." Changes in the exterior also affected the plastic trim on the edge of the carapace - it became smaller. In addition, the BMW X1 2012 got the turn signal on the mirrors, which have become more pointed and pleasant to look at. Buyers are offered enhanced customization options with a rich selection of new exterior colors and alloy wheels.

The main purpose of changing the front bumper was to increase pedestrian safety requirements. The new bumper allows you to avoid a pedestrian hit in the knee joint in an accident, and also redirects the body of the victim to a large hood surface. At the same time, the hood has a large distance to the engine and its hard parts, thus avoiding serious damage.

Safety of drivers and passengers is provided by front and side airbags, as well as moving forward at the moment of impact by head restraints.

Inside, the X1 was also slightly retouched. The center console and dashboard received a different finish, and the center console was lowered just below. A black glossy finish appeared around the deflectors. Also updated BMW X1 differs from the previous version of the new steering wheel and metal trim lever gearbox. Buyers will also have access to improved finishing materials and a richer range of colors for upholstery.

In the line of engines for the most compact Bavarian crossover, there have also been minor changes. The former 2.0-liter 177-horsepower gasoline "four" has given way to a more powerful unit, outstanding 184 hp and 380 Nm. A diesel version xDrive23d with a 204-horsepower 2.0-liter engine was replaced by a modification xDrive25d, equipped with a 218-horsepower engine of similar volume, the maximum torque of which is 450 Nm. In addition, the car will be offered with a modest 116-horsepower diesel engine and drive to the rear axle. But this version will not be available for Russian buyers.

In our market, the updated BMW X1 is offered with the same 2.0-liter atmospheric petrol engine with 150 hp. (it is equipped only with 6-speed mechanics), as well as its turbo modifications with a return of 184 and 245 hp The latter can be paired with an 8-speed automatic. For all engines BMW X1 2012 managed to achieve a significant reduction in fuel consumption (up to 0.9 liters per 100 km in diesel models with an eight-speed automatic transmission). All engines comply with eco-standard "Euro 5".

The front and rear suspension were subject to minor modifications. Technically, the rear suspension is a five-link integral system, and the front suspension is made on a double hinge. The suspension still retains a torquey and sporty character.

In Russia, the basic version of the BMW X1 sDrive18i offers a six-speed manual gearbox, fabric trim, plastic steering wheel (without leather upholstery), air conditioning, electric adjustment and heated side mirrors, a stabilization system, a speed limit on the slope, etc.

As options, customers will have access to an intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive, a Servotronic system that adjusts steering gain based on speed, dynamic stability control and dynamic traction control, as well as Performance Control technology, 6 airbags and three-point belts. The list of options continues with a panoramic roof, navigation system, advanced surround sound system, heated steering wheel, automatically dimming mirrors and much more. In early June 2015, the Bavarian company officially unveiled a new generation of the compact BMW X1 crossover, under the symbol F48. The developers have tried hard to improve this car. Its design, overall dimensions, configuration and technical characteristics have been improved.

The main changes affected the running gear of the crossover. If the predecessor basically had a “cart” from the wagon of the BMW 3 Touring model, now the crossover is based on the front-wheel-drive platform of the UKL1 model, which is familiar to motorists in the new MINI Cooper III and also the Gran Tourer 2-Series Active.

The second-generation BMW X1 is shorter by 39 mm (4439 mm), but wider by 21 mm (1821 mm) and higher by 53 mm (1598 mm) compared to its predecessor. BMW said that due to the expanded use of high-strength steels and aluminum, as well as an improved design of the body's power structure, the crossover could be made much easier. Updated BMW X1 looks much neater and more compact. The radiator grille has become chrome-plated and is located slightly higher than its predecessor. It is in harmony with the protective decorative bodywork in front of the hood. The hood itself will be shorter, and the rear window of the crossover has received a smaller angle of inclination. In general, designers have also slightly changed the appearance of the bumper, body and optics. Becoming more modern, the BMW X1 has not ceased to be bright and stylish. This applies to both the appearance and internal characteristics.

In the cabin of this car has always been comfortable and cozy to move around. But there have been some changes. The designers completely redesigned the front panel, a new instrument panel and a new stylish multifunction steering wheel appeared. The center console was also redesigned, the finishing materials became much better.

The wheelbase of the crossover increased by 90 mm - up to 2670 mm. Coupled with the transverse engine arrangement, this allowed to expand the cabin space. It is noted that the rear passengers' knees are provided with an additional 37 mm (the optional back sofa with longitudinal adjustments may add another 66 mm), and the boot volume increased by 85 liters and amounted to 505 liters. If you fold the back of the back sofa, the BMW X1 will take on board up to 1550 liters of luggage. It is also worth noting that the second generation crossover received longer rear side doors to facilitate access to the second row of seats.

The owner is waiting for a wide list of additional equipment and options available in the basic configuration. In addition to stock modifications, the car is available in four more versions: SporLine, xLine, Advantage, M Sport. Each of them is distinguished by individual stylistic design, both in the exterior and in the interior.

Already in the base on the updated BMW X1 are installed LED daytime running lights and light-alloy wheels of the new design R17 or R18 with a tire size of 225/50 or 225/45, respectively. The color palette of the body colors, available for ordering, was supplemented with metallic metallic brown - Sparkling Brown.

To help the driver, now new applications of the updated ConnectedDrive system, such as Eco Pro Analyzer for lower fuel consumption and Online Entertainment Assistant, are available.

The role of the base engine takes turbo "four" of 2 liters with a return of 192 hp. This engine is placed on the modification sDrive20i (front-wheel drive) and xDrive20i (four-wheel drive). A more productive version of the xDrive25i is also proposed, with a 2.0-liter engine producing 231 hp. (230Nm). The range of diesel engines is represented by 2.0-liter xDrive20d (190 hp), sDrive18d (150 hp) and xDrive25d (231 hp) engines.

The front-wheel drive BMW X1 with a diesel engine will receive a 6-speed manual transmission, the others - an 8-range automatic.

The weakest performance of the crossover - gasoline and diesel - are offered only with front-wheel drive, while for the rest, all-wheel drive system will come as standard. The manufacturer claims that the all-wheel drive system, which is equipped with a crossover, has been thoroughly upgraded: for example, the loss in the transmission of tractive effort is reduced by 30%. The crossover received a lot of driver's assistants and - for the first time in the family - an adaptive suspension with a system for selecting driving modes. You can choose between the sport, comfortable and economical modes.
